Still Getting Hung-Up Decluttering? It Happens!
As far as I’ve come, I still get hung up…I guess I’m saying this to make sure that we are all giving ourselves grace and asking the right questions to weed out the hard stuff. I have gotten rid of thousands of items, literally thousands, but this past weekend I got hung up by a 12-year-old pair of shorts. Yep! A 12-year-old pair of shorts.
These shorts are still cute (to me), they are a classic look, they still fit, and are still in good shape. As a matter of fact, I have two pairs of these shorts. One black pair and one blue pair. I love the blue pair. They are 12 years old, and they are still the shorts I reach for most (or a close second). The black pair on the other hand are the same size and I usually like black best; however, I don’t reach for them and this weekend when I put them on they just weren’t comfortable. I tried. I moved around in them. I did a few chores in them, but they just weren’t comfortable, and I took them off. I never find them comfortable, yet still I didn’t want to let them go.
I beat myself up at first and put them back in the closet. I thought maybe if I just loose a few pounds first then they will be more comfortable, and I should be able to wear them then. But a question I have been asking myself lately is not only “Does it fit?” but “Is it comfortable?” and when I ask, “Does it fit?” the answer is yes, they do and this is a question that is a no-brainer to ask. These shorts fit great, in theory, but they are UN-comfortable. They just don’t meet that criterion and I’ve owed these for 12 years and throughout those 12 years I have been many different sizes and guess what…they have never been comfortable! Why am I beating myself up over these shorts from Target that originally cost me
20-ish dollars? The fact is none of us like to be wasteful, especially with money, but we just don’t always know. So, after thinking about it I again got these shorts out of my closet and put them in the donation bag. They were officially donated yesterday, and I hope someone else loves them!
